How to get there?
-
Flight to Huatulco or Puerto Escondido in Mexico.
-
Normally, you land first in Mexico City, then transfer for approximately 1 hr to Huatulco or Puerto Escondido.
-
To get to the house, we recommend using a Taxi or renting a car.
-
To rent a car, it costs around $40 per day in low season, and around $60 in high season.
-
A taxi transfer from the airport costs between $80 to $100 to rent. However, we can pick you up from the airport for just $40 (book in advance with us).
-
If you’re renting a car, take the highway until you get to an OXXO, then turn left. This way, you will get to Mazunte first, then San Agustinillo. When you get to the end of town, turn right and after about 5 minutes, you’ll be at the entrance to Rancho de las Hamacas. Go straight and you will get to an intersection. Take the road on the right that goes up, until you see a wooden sculpture on the left - that means you’re at your destination.
-
If using a Taxi, point them in the direction of Rancho de las Hamacas in San Agustinillo.
What’s there to do around the house?
Casa Xochiquetzal is located on a hill, 10 minutes of walking on the beach away from the town of San Agustinillo - a small, one street town. Next to the beach, there are a lot of cozy restaurants with delicious local cuisine.
The town of Mazunte is located around 30 minutes’ walk away, and is one of the Mexico’s “Pueblo Magico” - a selection of tourist towns, which offer visitors special experiences because of their natural beauty, cultural richness, vibrant traditions, deep folklore, historical
reverence, tasty cuisine, magnificent art and crafts, as well as great hospitality. The town also offers a variety of stores, including vegetable stores, pharmacies, doctor clinics, and a wide selection of restaurants - all surrounding a clean and beautiful beach.
Punta Cometa also named the Sacred Hill, is the furthest south-western point in Mexico, a spectacular place where you can watch the most gorgeous sunrise in your entire life. Trust us, the sunset is definitely worth the 20-30 min hike.
To the other side, located a 15 minutes’ drive away is the town of Zipolite, a free spirit town, with a nudist beach (don’t worry, being nude is fully optional), a variety of quaint restaurants, and many local artisans who are always happy to show tourists their craft. The beach is open to the sea, making it quite dangerous to swim, but if you hike till the end of the beach you will get to La Playa del Amor - another beach, this one small and breathtaking, that also gives you the choice of coming nude or clothed.
Pochutla is the town to get supplies from. It’s located around 40 minutes’ drive from Casa Xochiquetzal, and is one of the biggest town in the region. The town offers a street market every day to buy fresh organic products, especially on Mondays when
people who grow their own produce come down from the mountains, La Sierra, to sell fresh
food to locals and tourists alike.
La Sierra San Jose del Pacifico
San José del Pacífico is located over 2300 metres above the sea level and is nowadays becoming a trendy destination, especially because of the fresh psychedelic mushrooms that can be bought in the area. However, this small town nestled in the mountains of Oaxaca, also has much more to offer, including a magical forest and the local tradition of enjoying a Temazcal - a traditional steam sweat lodge.
